In Bulgaria, you or your representative, and the prosecutor can ask the Court to consider if the grounds and the need to involuntarily keep you in a mental health care institution still persist before the three months period is over.

In any case the court is obliged to review your stay ex officio every three months based on psychiatric assessment sent to it by the hospital where you are treated.

The head of your hospital

In addition, the head of the mental health care institution where you are placed may make a decision to request cancellation of your involuntary placement before the date set by the court, if your condition does not require it anymore.

Before the court set deadline for your involuntary placement expires, the head of the hospital where you are placed must reconsider whether to terminate your placement or to prolong it. If the head has decided to review the need for involuntary placement, he/she must follow the fair and proper procedure set by the Health Act and explained by this Guide

The Health Act  explains in more detail when and how the review of your involuntary placement can be initiated and conducted and by whom.
