Foundation for Access to Rights is an NGO aiming to establish a solid ground for access to rights in practice in Bulgaria. FAR’s mission is to increase the institutional and public awareness, sensitivity and commitment to the need to address systemic problems in access to basic human rights in Bulgaria.

It further aims to contribute to the development of a favourable legislative environment in line with European and International standards for the protection of human rights and the establishment of best practices on access to rights. Among other activities, FAR predominantly provides free legal assistance to refugees, immigrants and stateless persons. It carries out trainings about the rights of vulnerable groups of persons.

Legal Aid

The organisation provides legal aid to vulnerable persons with financial difficulties in situations revealing systemic problems in access to rights where solution to these problems would lead to enhanced social justice.

Research

We conduct independent professional research on access to rights in Bulgaria.

  • Providing legal aid to vulnerable persons, especially those in need of asylum
  • Advocacy: Through advocacy events and meetings and production of media campaigns the organisation aims to increase the institutional and public awareness, sensitivity and commitment to the need to address systemic problems in access to basic human rights. Thus developing a favourable (legislative) environment in line with European and International standards for the protection of human rights and the establishment of best practices on access to rights
  • Sharing Knowledge: Informing the public and the media on the findings and recommendations of conducted studies, as well as on the existence of barriers to access to rights. Providing training, printed and digital resources for students, lawyers, judges, volunteers, staff of institutions working with refugees and immigrant
